After receiving a call concerning a leak from a customers chimney, we climbed up on the roof to find that the top wasn’t sealed correctly and because of that a large chunk of board was completely disintegrated creating a hole and causing the leak. We also found wasps that had made their nest inside the chimney and quickly removed them. Thankfully it was cold out and all the wasps were in hibernation, otherwise it would of been a completely different story.
On a side note, if you have wasp and/or bee nests that you need removed, the most economical and safest way to do so is in the early spring or late fall. Contact us if you have any questions or would like us to remove any nests.
After taking some measurements and ordering a new chimney top, we checked the bottom of the chimney for any water damage and found that the base needed reconstruction as well. We then replaced the base, wrapped the chimney with a tarp to protect it and installed the new chimney cap when it was delivered.
